Can I submit a published article to Bow Valley College's institutional repository?

Answer

Yes, you may submit an article that has been published in a journal, on a website, or other platform provided that the publication agreement and license allow you to do so.

Publishers have copyright and authors' rights policies that tell you if you may republish your work and if so, what version of the work you may publish.

There are three version types:

  1. Published: the final version that has been posted to the publisher website in PDF or html format or printed in hard copy.
  2. Post-print: the accepted version that, if applicable, has been through the peer review process and addressed the reviewers' comments. This version is usually in Word format and is often the version you are recommended and permitted to republish as per the publisher's policies.
  3. Pre-print: the original version that is submitted for publication, which has not been reviewed by colleagues or editors.

To determine if you have permission to publish prior or after the work has been formally published, read the agreement you signed with the publisher, look up the policies in the Sherpa Romeo database, or contact the Library or Bow Valley College's Copyright Services for assistance.
