How do I make a recording of my PowerPoint presentation?

Answer

Important Note: To make a recording of your PowerPoint, you MUST use the desktop version of PowerPoint. It is also highly recommended that you use the Windows version of PowerPoint. Once your PowerPoint is ready, you can borrow a Windows laptop from the Library to make your recording.

Making a recording

When you are ready to record your PowerPoint:

  1. In PowerPoint, go to the slide that you want to start your recording.
  2. On the top menu bar, click on the Record menu. In the toolbar that pops down, click on either the From Beginning or From Current Slide button. You can record your whole presentation at once or do each slide individually. It's up to you!

  3. On the recording preview screen, you'll see a recording toolbar at the top of the window. If you need to turn your video on/off, you can do that before you start your recording. Make sure you're visible and centred in the preview screen before you start recording.
  4. When you're ready to start recording, press the red circle (Record button). A countdown will appear - do not start speaking until the timer has counted down and the recording has started.
  5. When you have finished your recording, press the red square (Stop button). Your audio/video will automatically be saved and attached to your PowerPoint slide.

Changing or deleting a recording

Note: You CANNOT make edits to your recording. If you make a mistake or want to edit out parts, you will need to delete your old recording and record your slide again.

  1. After you have finished your recroding, you will see your video or a speaker icon on the lower right side of your slide. When you present your slideshow, your recording will automatically play as you click through your slides.
  2. If you want to re-record a slide, you can. Go to the slide you want to try recording again.
  3. On the top menu bar, click on the Record menu. Click on the Clear Recording button once.
    1. If you are only need to re-record the one slide, pick Clear Recording on Current Slide
    2. If you want to re-record your entire presentation, pick Clear Recording on All Slides

  4. You should see your recording has disappared from the lower right corner of your slide. You are now ready to record again!
