Role Description

Position Title: Peer Technology Assistant (PTA)

Location: 2nd Floor of BVC Library and Learning Commons

Number of Hours: 2-4 hours per week

Honorarium: $15/hour


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Peer Technology Assistants (PTAs) provide basic technology advice, education, and support to BVC students. They answer questions and provide support on common BVC software products like MS Office, D2L Brightspace, and MS Teams. PTAs also help students with the technology that is offered in the library, including the student computers, printers, laptops, and WiFi. This is a paid volunteer role.

DUTIES:

  • Meet with students face-to-face and/or through virtual meetings
  • Provide technology assistance and support to students in a friendly, approachable, and non-judgmental manner
  • Keep accurate stats on questions asked and solutions provided
  • Provide assistance with events such as the New Student Orientation and other scheduled workshops and events
  • Collaborate with the Learner Technology Advisor to develop resource materials that address common student questions

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Strong computer and technology skills
  • Understanding of personal and professional boundaries
  • Strong mentoring/coaching skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time BVC student in a Technology program
  • Maintain good academic standing
  • Letter of referral from an instructor that outlines your suitability for the role
