How to cite when using bullet points?

Answer

When paraphrasing using bullet points, there are two options:

1) Including the citation at the begining your list.

Example:

According to studies, sleeping has been shown to (Morpheus, 1999):

  • improve health
  • improve mood
  • reduce stress levels

2) Including the citation at the end your list.

Example:

According to studies, sleeping has been shown to:

  • improve health
  • improve mood
  • reduce stress levels (Morpheus, 1999).

When quoting at any point in the bullet list, include the citation after each quote.
Example:

According to studies, sleeping has been shown to:

  • "greatly benefit improve health and mood" (Morpheus, 1999, p. 67).
  • "reduce stress level and harmful toxins on the brain" (Alice, 2007, p. 88)
