What is a response assignment?
For response assignments, describe your personal response to a reading. Explain your initial reaction, but without a reviewing of the material. It is important to be selective in writing about your personal responses as too many will not allow for proper explanation. Choose a one significant thought your have while reading and exploring it in depth.
Response assignments are brief and do not need the typical five-paragraph essay structure as many other writing assignments require. Another exception is the welcomed use of the first-person pronoun “I.” Since these assignments are personal, ensure that the literature is the focus and supported by your personal thoughts and experiences.
It is important to review the rubric or syllabus to confirm all requirements of the assignment are met. It might also be necessary to cite and reference other sources.
