How do I write a discussion post?
Discussion posts gives you the opportunity to discuss course content, interact with other students/instructors, and ask or answer questions. They are an important part of the learning process, as they should address course content, reveal the students understanding of that content, and promote peer interaction. To help facilitate this,
- Answer questions posed by the instructor.
- Provide clear, thorough, and thoughtful answers.
- Paraphrase, rather than quoting, course content or previous discussions.
- Give evidence and explanations.
- Ensure that all sources used are cited.
- Explain connections between the evidence and original question.
- Discussion posts should still be written in academic language with proper spelling, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation.
Sometimes it is necessary to reply to another posts,
- Explain why you agree or disagree with the other post.
- Make sure there is supporting evidence.
- Keep the conversation ongoing by asking open-ended questions will allow other students to participate.
- Remember this is still a formal class, remain respectful.
The instructor might have course requirements for discussion posts. It is important you review the course syllabus to ensure that the instructions are followed.
