Q. How do I cite and reference a YouTube video?

Author(s) last name, Initial. (Year, Month Day). Title of video in italics and sentence case [Video]. YouTube. https://youtube.com/...

Weissman, J. (2019. November 7). Making the Popeyes chicken sandwich at home, but better [Video]. Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5SYu8tyKjM

In-text citation (paraphrase):

(Author(s)'s last name, year)

In-text citation (direct quote):

(Author(s)'s last name, year, timestamp)

*timestamp in 00:00 format

(Weissman, 2019)

  • Credit the channel that uploaded the video as the author, even if somebody else produced the video. If you want, you can credit the producer in the text of your paper.
  • If you are directly quoting a YouTube video, include a timestamp in your in-text citation. Format it like this: (Weissman, 2019, 1:54)
