Q. How do I cite and reference a photograph I took myself?

Answer

You do not need to include a photograph you took yourself in your reference list. Instead, cite in-text only.

In-text citation:

Under the photo, include the following:

Figure #. Caption describing the photo. Month, day, year.

Example

Figure 2. A photo of the RGO Library and Learning Commons taken in Calgary, Alberta. September 25, 2019.

Tips:

  • Figures are numbered in the order they appear within your document.
  • When referring to photos within your text, refer to them by their figure number.
