Q. How do I cite and reference someone I interviewed?

Answer

If the speech is from an interview you conducted, you can cite it as personal communication.

For personal communication, you only need an in-text citation (no reference list entry is needed).

In-text citation

(Initial. Last name, personal communication, Month, day, year).

Example:

(J. McGill, personal communication, October 12, 2017).

If you read or listened to the interview/presentation in a print or an electronically published source (podcast, video, etc.) you need to cite it in-text and list it on your reference page.
