Q. How much are fines for overdue library materials?

Answer

For items from our general collection (items that can be borrowed for a period of two weeks), the overdue fine is $1 per day per item.

For textbooks and other items from our reserve collection (items that can be borrowed for a period of two to three hours), you will incur a fine of $1 immediately upon the item being overdue, then an additional $1 for each extra hour the item is overdue.

For laptops, you will incur a fine of $5 immediately upon it being overdue, then an additional $5 for each extra hour the laptop is overdue.

Keeping reserve items and laptops overnight will be charged a $50 fine.

If a borrowed item is lost, you will need to pay the following:

  • the replacement cost of the book
  • any overdue fines

Please let us know about the lost item as quickly as you can.

The Library also accepts perishable items to pay for your overdue materials. Each perishable item (such as canned food) will reduce your fines by $2.00.

You can pay for your fines with perishable items, cash, or credit/debit at the Library and Learning Commons Circulation Desk on floor 2. Please note that the library does not accept payments over the phone.
